Complex passwords can be a real pain in the butt, after you watch this episode you’ll learn how LastPass makes great password management stupid easy!

LastPass’ Password Vault is protected by a master password and is encrypted locally, synchronized to any other browser. LastPass also has a form filler that automates password entering and form filling. It also supports password generation.

In this episode, Chris shares a few ways he finds LastPass to be exceptionally useful!

    nice work! you should tell the LP people you’re using their product and helping promote it.
    I have been using LP since you mentioned it on techsnap one time. I have it installed on my browser at work, school, and at home so all passwords stay synced.

    Couple cool things…
    you can just login to the website to have access to your passwords.
    you can now use google two factor authentication so it will require your password and a 6 digit number that changes every 10 seconds or so. this requires the google app to be installed on your smart phone.

    Great to see in depth look back. Hope LastPass should have been paying you for that one :) . The one issue I have with services like this is its a single point of failure.

    I think the idea of the show is nice, but I feel like while I was watching this I was watching someone trying to sell me something. I think I’d rather watch longer episodes that are highly detailed then what seemed/felt like a short ad for a product. I kept waiting to hear Chris say “Act now and get….”

    With LP you are able to export your passwords and then should be able to keep a copy or import into something else.

    most of what is mentioned on JB is open source and free. LP does have a premium option but it is not required to hold more passwords. Going to

    Great new show Chris and thank you for explaining just how lastpass works.  I have just switched to lastpass because it seems like the best and most secure of the other PW managers out there.  I will be very interested to see what you have on the show next.

    I hear what you are saying, I had that thought when I was shooting it.

    My obstacle was trying to convince people that it’s a good practice to take up, and also a tool it’s safe to trust to try and do it. And do that kinda quick enough, that enough people would watch it that it might make a difference.

    All that added up to a bit of a pitch I suppose, but momentum and keeping attention were the goal!

    Chris, I loved the new show and looking forward to more. The show did have abit of a infommercial feel to it but who cares! All reviews that you believe in can sway that way. I think you did a great job, well I know you did, I’m using the damn product…hehehee Now see if you can get some money out of them for advertising. :-)

    Chris, I loved the show (and the other show from JB too, btw).

    I just would like to point you to PasswordMaker (http://passwordmaker.org/). That’s what I use. it is kind of similar, but it doesn’t store the passwords anyware. They are always generated, so you have no real worries about security problems for the storage. It has plugins for all the main browsers and a standalone version, in javascript. I can’t keep from using it.

    If you already know it, nevermind. But I find it more usefull than online or offline storage systems.

    P.S.: I’m posting kind of anonymous, for security reasons (too neurotic) :)

    I meant a single point of failure as in if someone gets your LP password you are boned. I know your email is also like this but I have a gmail that never been used and is only for keeping my other emails secure in the case that I get hacked

    I have been using Keepass/KeePassX for a while, and it’s a great tool.
    It’s the same concept as LastPass, except the password database is stored on your local disk, and instead of a web interface you need a local client. And that makes it not very mobile. 
    So I do like the idea of using LastPass.

    However, it sounds like an ideal place for a cracker to start cracking… In fact it’s happened before:

    So is it safe now? Will it be safe next year? It’s safer than having a single password for all your sites, that’s for sure.But I think I’ll stick to Keepass for now.

    Security is based on trust. If you don’t trust LP, then no security precautions they take will make you feel that you can trust them.  We have all heard security is a midset and we have to always question how things work.

    The link you sent clearly shows a line of very technical information from LP to explain everything that will be done to reduce this risk in the future, and how this attack happened originally.

    Keepass is only as secure as your firewall or the physical access to your keepass database.
