A Die Hard Christmas | Film Filter BETA

Chris and Jeremy get into the holiday spirt with 1988′s action movie, with a holiday twist: Die Hard

Die Hard is a 1988 American action film directed by John McTiernan and written by Steve de Souza and Jeb Stuart based on the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. Released on July 15, 1988, the film follows NYPD officer John McClane (Bruce Willis) as he takes on a group of highly organized criminals led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) performing a heist under the guise of a terrorist attack, using hostages including McClane’s wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) to keep the police at bay.

The film’s success spawned three sequels; Die Hard 2 in 1990, Die Hard with a Vengeance in 1995, and Live Free or Die Hard in 2007.

All that and some random chitchat, in our BETA episode of Film Filter!

    No video ? :(

Great show guys! I will definitely be listening to this one. You are obviously going to get just a TON of requests for what movies to do next, just go with your gut every time and let me just say that THIS choice in particular was SUPERB. Congratulations guys!

    Nice show! But…
If Hans had killed Holley then there wouldn’t have been a Die Hard 2 because John waiting for her plane is the set up for the film.
Quick suggestion, if you want us to watch along you should make this more like a commentary track. Pad it out to the full length of the film. I got about 30 minutes in then ended up skipping around to the scenes you were commenting on.
Looking forward to the Star Trek episodes, and the return of LAS and Tech Snap next year!

Audio commentary style would be nice but I don’t know if you guys are willing to spend 1.5 to 2 hours every time you record this show. I would certainly like it since it would play nicely on my way to work.

I enjoyed the show. I would like to see a video version though.

McTiernan took a lot of the Xmas music / tone from Richard Donner’s Lethal Weapon which was released the previous year. And for a techie laugh, watch that movie for the scene where Danny Glover uses his “mobile phone” :-)

An audio cast of a video/movie? Ok. That’s almost a brilliant as a BSD guy on a show about Linux. Shouldn’t a “cast” about video be a video? And shouldn’t a host of a show called “The Linux Action Show” actually USE Linux? Is it just me or are both of these lame ideas.

Now don’t get me wrong. I have a great deal of respect for Allan.  Great guy, smart, and a wealth of knowledge. But a host for a Linux show? Chris if you want to have him on a show because he “hosts” just about everything that JB does. That’s fine. Go ahead and feed everyone’s ego. Give him his own BSD show. Or his own show on networking. But DAMN, Linux? Really? Come on. In spite of all of his faults at least Brian used Linux.

If you want to take JB to the next level. You must move to the next level. And this ain’t it. And Bob’s not your Uncle, to misquote you. Like the intro to this show.

“  … and always thoughtful. Check us out.”

Yep, that’s inspiring and professional. Makes me want to just run over to your place and give you a big ol’  bucket o’ money. You betch’a!

You normally do a great job. And both you and JB have potential. But if you really want there to be “millions” of viewers, like you suggest there are. Then produce shit that millions will want to/can actually watch. This is the third “new” show that’s not worth my time. And I do have a real interest in all three of them.

An “In Depth Look” that’s 10-15 minutes long? In several weekly segments? That so far has not shown anything you do, or use, in much depth. Like how much money you have into equipment and software. And you have no real idea/answer? How does that help anyone if they are looking at doing what you do? Or how does it even help you? You want me to give you money and you can’t even account for how much you have already spent. Or what you spent it on? Good luck with that.

I’m not trying to bad mouth anyone, or what you are trying to do. Not at all. But if this is about more then just egos. Then you need to make it that. More then just egos. If you want people, companies, to give you their money. Then you must give them something of value in return. And I’m sorry, but shows like Film Filter, as it exists, aren’t it. An extended audio show about a video.

Video of two guys talking about a movie? It makes no sense people. Shows like LAS require video because we see screenshots, clips, etc., but when you are effectively commenting on a movie, what are you doing to show? You can’t show parts of the movie, so what do you want to see?

I might agree with the running commentary along with the movie, but that also has a flaw in that the guys would only be able to talk about their favorite scenes quickly before the next one comes up.

I guess if the format is going to change I’m definitely more in favor of doing a movie length commentary type podcast than another video cast.

Definitely the wrong place for this comment…
