good to see the old team back together, even if it’s just for one episode.

  2. CedricO Says:

For the love of god stop being a fanboy and stay neutral. Some people dont care about the Foundry, nor about a new ship every month. Personally i want to see more revamped missions, and exploration fixed. Jumping up and down and talking about going broke over new ships in the C-store will probably also annoy a lot of people who rnt as fond of spending money at every turn as you do Chris. Please keep that in mind.

Or flame me for all i care.

  3. rextrek Says:

when it comes to STO – I dont deprive myself of anything….its the only game I play – and well at 51,  I can afford it..

  4. Yleron / Korlus Says:

CedricO: The Foundry is one of the main reasons STO is different from its competitors. If sites and shows about STO don’t bring it up, they’re doing STO a disservice, it’s a great tool that more players ought to use. There are a lot of Foundry missions that are made to the same (or better) standards as the official ones.

Also, I believe that in another episode, they addressed why this show attempts to stay positive. Directed, constructive criticism helps both the game and the community address problems, whereas general criticism helps nobody.

  5. Anonymous Says:

Fantastic episode. Best since the ep100 ones.
Good to see mav getting in there too, shooting community questions at Al.

Hope we can see more of J man back on the show. Via skype or whatever. Good treat having him in studio though.

  6. Anonymous Says:

EDIT: Doh! This was supposed to be in reply to “Yleron / Korlus” post.

    +1

I want to see a positive show about the game. A show for fans, by fans. Why would I want to watch
something only to at the end feel bad or meh about the state of affairs.

If the hosts want to make observations and make constructive criticisms that’s cool too.

  7. Anonymous Says:

Great show, loved the links for the new ships especially. I doubt i will bother with any of my feds having the odyssey set, but i may just get my kdf main a bortasq set.

CedriO, you really need to use more dilithium for your cstore points. Not to mention i totally disagree with you over the Foundry.

  8. Thorsten Stichweh Says:

Great Show. You nailed it for the last episode! The Spacewalk was awesome and I hope it will be avaible at the Foundry

  9. CedricO Says:

How can you disagree with the statement i made that some people dont care about the Foundry. The forums in the past have shown that people find it offensive that its even in the game. I understand if you dont agree, and respect your opinion, but to refuse to recognize that there are people out there who dont like it is absurd to be frank.

  10. CedricO Says:

And i would say jumping up and down as a fanboy saying things like ill be broke soon because there is new stuff in the C-store to buy isnt tactfull by far. Wich in my opinion is constructive, i could have just said “you suck lolcake” then it would be general.

You know why STO is one of the few MMO’s out there that provide tools to make your own content? Because its sadly lacking in that regard… thats why. Every other game wich doesnt have it produces enough to keep the population happy. And no, this isnt even unique to STO, look at CoH for one example, only reason theirs is lacking is because they produce enough content to keep their player base happy.

You guys believe the Foundry is unique, and i cant argue that its a nice tool to have if you like to write your own stories for Star Trek. But dont forget to unlearn all you have learned in those missions you do, you might just end up thinking his fan written fiction is fact. In the end the Dev created content is checked over by CBS.

All we will agree on is to disagree, but thats not rly the point. The point is that this should be a podcast that at least tries to be objective. And this episode failed horribly in that regard.

  11. Korlus / Yleron Says:

Warning: Long post ahead. Read at your own peril!

You think that the Foundry was made by Cryptic because they couldn’t be bothered to make their own content, or do you think it was made because it made sense as a feature? In my (limited) knowledge of how game development works, I’d say it was the latter.
Should we force Cryptic’s small STO team to focus on churning out content, or.. What? The game needs to make more money so they can hire a larger team if we want to see more content all of the time. Right now I’d like a mix of bug fixing and extra content, because STO has a *lot* of bugs.

I think that I’m going off at a tangent though. The point I should probably try to make is this:
Why should a podcast have to be objective? Podcasts cater towards their audience, and (could) try to make a difference. In this case, STOked caters towards their audience by giving reviews of things. Helping people out with areas of the game. Giving light to good foundry content.

If STOked tried to be objective, they’d give equal time to the good and bad points of the game, and I don’t watch it to hear every bad point about a game I enjoy. If I don’t know of a bad point, it likely hasn’t affected me, so unless it’s likely to affect me, I’d rather carry on hearing about good sides of the game for me to pay attention to, right?

STOked helps keep me interested in playing the game, and that’s a good thing. Are you more annoyed at their attitudes towards the news they deliver, rather than the news itself, or does it all bother you? Because it seems to me like you’re complaining now more about the attitude of the presenters; for instance, at the new ships.

I’d love to end with “If you don’t like it, don’t watch it”, but ultimately, that does nothing but drive potential viewers away. Instead, could you make a concise list of points that you’d rather change? It would make it far easier to understand where you’re coming from, and might even lead to some creative discussion afterwards.

  12. Korlus / Yleron Says:

I think that perhaps he disagreed that he shouldn’t bring it up. It’s one of STO’s unique and good points. Right now it has a lot of potential, but is hard and discouraging to use. Surely anything about making it better is good news?

  13. Mishu Says:

Just an idea, they’re going to have customizable kits, can we see something like customizable slots on a ship? for example the ship must have 1 of each console slot but after that if i want all my console slots to be enginnering or all to be tactical or all to be science i can place the remaining slots the way I want them. making a universal ship creation to fit my style of play? I think you’d see more role specific players if you did, then you could craft raid like missions where you need a tank/healer/dps feels. Just a thought =)

  14. C_Carmichael Says:

The new bridge will be locked to the Odyssey? That is just plain weak. Really weak. The bridge was the one thing I actually liked about the ship. No reason to buy it now.

I gotta question why Cryptic seems to think every new ship has gotta be a big behemoth cruiser. When are we going to see some midsize and small ships added to Tier 5, that aren’t so…unique?

The only small ships at Tier 5 are fighter jet wannabes (Dervish line) and flying cheeseboxes (Defiant). The only mid-sized ship in all of Tier 5 is the Intrepid, aka the “Flying Phaser”. How about some mid and small sized ships at Tier 5, that look like a normal Starfleet ship? Saucer, Primary Hull and 2 nacelles. Not 3 nacelles. Not 4 nacelles. Not a fighter jet or a cheesebox, or a submarine (DSSV) or a weird melted version of an Akira (Luna) but an honest to God Starfleet vessel?

Anyway, good show. Good to see some of the insight from the devs, even if I don’t agree with them on parts of it.

PS – It was definitely nice to see Jeremy back for an episode.

  15. Luke Es | sE ekuL Says:

When you say “Every New Ship” you realise you’re dissing the gorram Enterprise-F. Maybe it won’t show up in JJ Abrams timeline, but as far as CBS is concerned (time will tell) it’s canon. A user of a game about Star Trek influenced Gene Roddenberry’s universe. And here you are having a pissing contest on the devs for the speed they can make new honest-to-God authentic ships. Classy. Also the little matter of Logan moving on, but knowing Cryptic devs I’ll bet $20 he’ll be back eventually. 😉

I don’t imagine the Klinks would have tolerated another B’rel on their side as compensation, so when they add one behemoth, they have to add two for balance. Meanwhile the variants are just that, variants. 1 ship 4 ways or 4 ships 1 way is just something different to try out. Maybe it’ll suck, but they’ll probably make enough money to try the next thing on the list.

And if you don’t consider the Intrepid retrofit a small Tier 5 ship, I don’t even know what game you’re playing. I’m glad you mentioned cheeseboxes to go with your whine. ;P

  16. Luke Es | sE ekuL Says:

Best show since the 2-year special!! Way to go. Having Gozer would’ve been far too much awesome for one episode. 😀

  17. Capnbludd Says:

Tell Jman that Champions already has the party bomb, and had it long ago

  18. Katic Says:

I wish Jeremy was -really- back. No offense Chris, you’re a great guy and all, but the J-Man is my favorite..

  19. Jam062307 Says:

It was awesome having the J-man back on.  Definitely miss him in the weekly episodes.

  20. Jam062307 Says:

And bring on Gozer…I want those STF drop rates fixed.  100+ runs of KA Elite and no Proto-tech!!  its Bulsh!

  21. C_Carmichael Says:

gorram? No idea what that means. And I’m not sure what the point was of the JJverse rant, as I made no mention of the JJverse.

Actually, a good portion of your response doesnt make sense.

Oh, and I classify the Intrepid a mid-size ship. However, it has a very distinct look that I’m not particularly fond of. Personally, I’d rather see some NEW mid-size ships added to the game, that have a more traditional look.

    Like this: http://www.startrekonline.com/dyncontent/startrek/uploads/STO_DTNE_3rd_place_news.jpg

That’s what Id like to see. New ships, new designs, in a variety of sizes and purpose. Most of this year was spent making bastard-ized versions of existing ships for the +1 push, and nothing that was produced is useable at Tier 5. The last Tier 5 ship added for the Federation side was the D’Kyr. A large ship. Now, comes the Odyssey, another large ship.

Is it wrong for me to question when we might see some a) completely new designs -and- b) when we will see some variation in size for the ships added at Tier 5?

I personally don’t think so. But everyone is of course, entitled to their opinion of my opinion.

  22. Stoked Says:

I am working on reschedualing the missed interview, I’m hoping real soon. I’ll let the community know as soon as its confirmed.

  23. GeeMan Says:

Nice to see Jeremy back. Find it funny that when we gave
feed back on the game on the forums ,we are whining brats. I guess that makes
them incompetent jackasses for asking for feedback. Since they have all the
stats they would need to workout if the ship is overpowered, perhaps they not
up to the job they are doing. Ok test for strange Doff interaction but come
    one!

If your honest with him he doesnt want to hear it he just want to year that he is right and we are wrong he has stated before in the forums that the stfs are how they are and wasnt going to change them, he has explained the drop rate is working as planned and that is not the issue the issue is the same as it has been sence tribble and that what he inends isnt right, but he doesnt want to meet the comunity half way its basicly is way or tough and before anybody jumps on what i am saying go back and read his old post in the tribble forums and see it for yourself.

Poor wording on my part, Yleron is correct, i merely meant that i want the
podcasts that follow sto should continue to support the foundry and what it
    can/could mean for the game.

  28. Z3R0B4NG Says:

    Chris ….DOff System !!!

    DOff expansion not even mentioned?!
I asked 2 times now for a shoutout for the http://bit.ly/DOFFS sheet + DOFFJOBS channel… it’s just like the biggest community effort since the Red Alert channel, i’m waiting. ^^

And the DOff system could use a HUGE Math segment, explaining all those Chains, how to even get the good DOffs (without buying lots of C-Store packs)…
how the >Active< DOff buffs work for your ship / ground etc.

you made everyone hot for the DOff System while it was still months away, and now that it is here and rocking… where is the coverage?

I hope now that the latest FE is done you gonna get STOked back to a more News heavy Format.

  29. Stararmy Says:

What’s with the background music in the dialogue sections? It sounded kind of inappropriate. Maybe too high tempo or comedy feeling. I think it’d be better without music or with something smoother like something you might hear on the weather channel

  30. Commander88 Says:

I would rather watch a web show where the host(s) are passionate about the game they’re talking about, than one where they’re “meh” or hate the topic they’re covering.

Anyone here can come up with things they don’t like about STO; I don’t use the Foundry, but I don’t *hate* it, and I’ve played some good mishes from it. If there’s a reason why the devs are putting X out into the cash shop, and STOked can get an explanation or background detail on it, it may motivate me to buy, or it may not.

Buying things from the game is my choice, just as using any of the features; Doff, STFs, Foundry, etc. There’s not obligation to do anything/everything in STO, and it’s good to watch a show that talks about parts of the game I may not be paying attention to or could have overlooked.

And you don’t get eyeballs on your product by being a detractor; NPS needs promoters of the product to drive sales and keep customers happy. If I want to read complaining about STO, I can go to the forums, or read some of the in-game chat.

  31. Commander88 Says:

     “gorram” is from Firefly

He’s making a point of saying that there are two venues of “canon” for Trek now, the JJverse (where we probably will never see anything from the late 24th/25 century) and STO, which CBS is getting their monthly GPL stipend from Cryptic and “blessing” what is being put into the game.

Personally, I think at this point, if you look at the progression curve for XP and the number of ships in the game, I don’t think a player spends enough time at the T2/3/4 levels to warrant adding ships there, and to me it seems that T5 is clogged with canon ships, or C-store ships that you can purchase to get money from the glut of high-end players in the game.

And, how many ships can you fly at any one time? One
How many ships does the average play have sitting in their inventory, assuming they haven’t deleted any, and counting shuttles/runabouts/etc. Probably 10 or so, or enough that you can buy extra ship slots from the C-store.

Oddly enough, the Stargazer class, which is canon from TNG, had 4 nacelles…so it is likely that there are other versions of ships out there with them. It’s just not common. And the Luna is a canon ship, so is the DSSV and others. Just because you don’t have the designs *you* want, doesn’t mean they aren’t part of the Trekverse…ask everyone who wants an Ambassador class, a Vesta, or some of the other designs.

So, I’m thinking the ship you prefer was one of the versions that didn’t win the design the E contest? Are we still going back to that vineyard of sour grapes? Cryptic is either going to come up with designs, or use ones from the old studio they bought the license from, or make variations on a theme.

If you want more ships at T5, and don’t like what Cryptic is producing, then vote with your wallet, and try to convince others to do the same. Odds are though, I don’t think you’re going to get much headway in either direction.

We need more Foundry assets. We only have two Terran Empire assets, and they’re labelled “Federation Battleship” and “Fek’Ihri Dreadnought”. This episode was great, but PLEASE make a note of that – even just a passing comment – in the next one.
