I am one of the long term hard core Star Trek fan. I preordered the game, got the lifetime subscription. 

I’ve spent about $250 to $350 in the c-store. 

I hate lock boxes, the Dominion, Cardi ships I would have paid for int he c-store, instead I spent $50 each on lock boxes for a bunch of green/blue crap and no ships. This really angered me. 

Cryptic keeps blaming Atari and PW for everything we don’t like.

I am sick of content delays and this gated content doesn’t work for me, I have a wife and kids and need my game to wedge into my life, not wedge my life into my game. 

I also hate the lobi crystals, they screwed us over when they changed to dilithium in order to reduce the currencies, and now they introduce another one? 

I now rarely log into STO, I play TOR instead. 

I now regret buying the lifetime and I don;t think I will be playing much anymore. I would have played this game for 10 years if they did things right, but they have disappointed me over and over again. 

Cryptic now joins SOE, I will never buy anything from these companies again.

Yeah apparently the staff has doubled yet the content is slower coming out except small titbits like lockbox stuff.  

There’s a pretty big flaw in Chris’s argument here. I understand it coming from someone that has been with the game since launch, while I am new since F2P, but I think it might stand to reason that the long-term subscribers are NOT the only and not even necessarily the most significant source of revenue for the game. Isn’t that sort of obvious given that F2P is a successful business model?

Sub’s (like myself) are a lot like Star Trek fans in general. We want the entire movie / game / whatever to be made just for us. But there’s a lot of us. Not all of us are subscribers. This game is made for a lot of different people.

Some of those people obviously like timed events. Otherwise, they wouldn’t work. If they don’t work, they’ll stop.

I’m sure it is the goal to build STO into the ultimate star trek game, and it’s a good portion of the way there in my opinion, but it’s something that will take 10 years. They have to balance between new projects that grow the game and those that keep the revenue flowing. That’s reality. Sub’s are an important part of the audience, but they are not the only audience. Part of the game is always going to be geared for the non-subs.

It’s possible that timed events aren’t there for you. They’re not my thing, certainly. Neither is PVP, for that matter. And that’s ok. But if it’s that important to you to get the loot or whatever then timed events are working. Stop pouting and watch the calendar.

NO ONE LIKES GATED CONTENT.  Not sure if Cryptic really gives a shit about what the players of their games want or enjoy.  There is no longer anything honest about anything that Cryptic does.  It’s become a morass of bait and switch, outright lies, artificial manipulation of in game stats to beef up their P2W ships etc.  There really isn’t much left to stick around for if this is the direction they are taking this.

I agree with Chris and Mav, Gated content is bad. I don’t like being dictated to about when I can play the game. I expect to play when I want to, not when Cryptic says I can play. If they must have gated content, have multiple different event, then at least we can choice which one we can play. I was unable to play the Defera invasion event for over 2 months due to the times they were made available, it’s a bit better now.  I have to say these gated events gives me the impression of a game that is coming to it’s natural end and that the company is desperately trying to keep the game going. I read on Digital Spy that SW:TOR has lost 400,000 subscribers since February, I know that STO is F2P but if TOR can’t keep players spending money what hope as STO.  It’s always wait and see what the next Season holds with Cryptic, and we fall for it every time. They promise much, and deliver very little. I’m getting feed up.   I nearly died laughing when Chris said STO in 10 years time. I’m not even sure that STO will last to the end of the year, and since none of the Star Trek series has made it to Season 8 it doesn’t bode well for STO.

Time gated content is fine in an MMO. It allows those players who don’t yet have a fleet, or are in a small fleet, to find a group easier. If 3 people are queueing for a Crystaline Entity, 4 for the new Vault mission and 3 for a Deferi Invasion then no-one is going to play anything. If all of a sudden only the Vault mission is available, then thats two full pick up groups enjoying the game.

The people it is most likely to annoy are those in larger guilds who want to play content with a group of friends on their schedule. So maybe the solution would be to have some kind of ‘Mission Computer’, purchasable as part of a guild starbase, which allows guilds to start these missions outside of the designated time.

I do agree that is is a little annoying when new content comes out and everyone can’t wait to try it, but sometimes can’t because of real life commitments. However, maybe there should be an introductory period where it is always avaialable before it gets added to the ‘film strip’, much like the level gating on the feature episodes is only added after a couple of weeks so lower levels can enjoy the new content.

I just don’t see it happening, the only non C-store ship that was made available since launch was the free Ody (if I’m wrong someone let me know plx). If anythign we’ll see a fed Kar’Fi by christmass
