In this week’s last episode of Jupiter@Nite, we take a look toward the weekend in a new direction, and examine some of the more strange celebrations that we take part in as humans on this planet. Some people celebrate sports, while others celebrate the human body, and others have a strong fascination with foods.

We’ll tell you about the awesome and odd celebrations going on RIGHT NOW, as well as share some fun stories about the days we share our birthdays with.

Today is apparently “National Potato Day” (according to this link) which we celebrated by eating some gigantic tasty spuds that Angela made.

Also “National Aviation Day” which we celebrate by… not flying.  You’re welcome.

Sunday, Aug 22nd, is “National Go Topless Day” — hooray for boobies!

  • Official Link:  Gotopless.org (NSFW!)
  • Actually headed up by a UFO worshipping cult
  • A prime example of someone taking a good idea (topless women) and running with it in a horrible direction (becoming a ranting, angry mob of human rights crazies).

January 26th

  • Australia Day is the official national day of Australia.
  • The day is seen as controversial for many Australians, some see it as commemorating celebrating the destruction of the native Aboriginal culture by British colonists.
  • Typically celebrated by: Family meetings, picnics and barbecues; parades and topless day (not really).

Famous Australian Actresses that celebrate Chris day on January 26th:

October 26th:

  • Angam Day is a holiday recognized in the Republic of Naur
  • Mule Day is an annual celebration of all things related to mules and is held in Columbia, Tennessee
  • Begun in 1840 as “Breeder’s Day”, a meeting for mule breeders, it now attracts over 200,000 people and takes place over four days
  • “Mule Day” has been a popular Columbia tradition for nearly 170 years, since the 1840s.

September 16

  • National Beer Days!  Celebrated with the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO
  • Mexican Independence Day!  (visual1, visual2) Which I learned while living in LA.  I thought the neighbors were just throwing me a party.  Go figure.
