NASA’s Apollo Program, which ran from 1968 to 1972, consisted of a series of 17 manned flights.

The first 10 missions were used to test various elements of what a lunar landing mission was expected to be like.

Armstrong and Aldrin remained on the moon for just over 21 hours.

Of which two and a half were spent outside the spacecraft.

The Apollo Program continued with an additional six missions (Apollo 12-17).

Thought this would be of interest to you guys. It's a bit dated, but still an interesting article that I recall… recently reading (as I have my pick of a few outdated magazine collections =).
The short run being, there's an abundance of a specific isotope on the moon that could be used for sustained fusion reaction for electric production.

Hope this helps, and keep up the great work guys!

Sorry guys, there were only 11 manned Apollo missions . Apollo 7 to 17 and only 6 of those landed on the moon!

hmm, BP's slogan for their asteroid mining program. ” We can pollute even the emptiness of space!” or ” We think a golden plated visors for our space miners to protect them from sun radiation are a bit of an overkill. We will provide them with a bottle of level 50 sunscreen instead. “

  5. David Says:

For once I actually agree with the senates decision here. What's important is that the funding be made available to accomplish the “asteroid landing”. In 1961 when Kennedy said we're gonna land on the moon it was simply impossible at that time. The technology didn't even exist. Which is why the money was spent to invent it.
And the real benefit isn't tang or Velcro, it's the infrastructure and cross-pollination of technologies that results. I'm sick of all the smartest minds in the world going overseas to europe or asia do important work.
